Project Description

The Black Dog Institute is an independent not-for-profit medical research institute affiliated with the University of New South Wales, Sydney. As the only medical research institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. Black Dog Institute achieves this through translational research which we rapidly turn into practical and accessible solutions including education and training programs, digital mental health tools and apps, clinical services and public resources to create real-world change.

Areas of focus

Black Dog Institute’s areas of focus include suicide prevention, digital innovation, novel treatment approaches, youth mental health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health and workplace mental health. All of our work is evidence-based, and we incorporate the voice of mental health lived experience in all we do.
