Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease affecting 120,000 people in Australia. There is no cure and people who live with T1D must diligently manage their condition every minute of every day, checking their blood glucose levels, monitor food intake, and administering insulin several times a day to stay alive. Low blood glucose levels could result in serious health complications while high blood glucose levels lead to long-term complications, it’s a constant juggling act.
Children as young as 9mnths old can be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and are forced to live with this for life.
JDRF’s vision through research, advocacy and community is to turn type one into type none.
